The Business Council of Mongolia is hosting a roundtable discussion with Bill Bikales, a Harvard-trained economist and East Asia specialist, for an insightful presentation on the topic, "The Mongolian Shock Therapy Myth."
In this session, Bill Bikales, who served as an Economic Advisor to six Mongolian Prime Ministers, will critically examine the widely accepted belief that Western financial institutions imposed "shock therapy" on Mongolia in the early 1990s. He will explore the origins of this narrative, its lasting impact, and how it has shaped perceptions of the private sector and foreign investment in Mongolia.
Following the presentation, we will facilitate a roundtable discussion where industry leaders, economists, and policymakers will engage in a thought-provoking conversation about how these misconceptions continue to shape Mongolia's economic landscape and the steps needed to create a more open and investment-friendly environment.
Due to limited space, only a select number of members will be able to join the discussion. Please register in advance to secure your spot. If space permits, we will follow up with an approval email to confirm your participation.
We look forward to your participation in this engaging session!
